How I handle updates

I want to get it right.

Local information moves fast, especially during bad weather. Here is what I try to do before I share something with the community.

Check before posting

  • Use official agencies and direct sources when possible
  • Say where and when something happened
  • Be clear when a report is still being checked
  • Do not make a situation sound worse than the facts show

Weather alerts

Official watches and warnings come from the National Weather Service. Always follow instructions from local emergency officials when safety is involved.

Roads, events and businesses

I look for an official announcement, a direct source or a clearly identified eyewitness. Because plans change, always check the date and time on an update.

Corrections

If I get something wrong, let me know. Important mistakes will be corrected as quickly and clearly as possible.

Advertising

Ads are labeled and kept separate from posts. An advertiser does not decide what I cover or what I correct.

Community submissions

I review photos, video and tips before sharing them and may contact the sender for more information.
